2. Practice news reporting: Follow the directions and get writing. Work alone. When you are done, please print out your news story and hand it in.

Day 7: Staff bios, take 2

Staff bios: write your own bio in 100 words or less. Let's go for a more serious tone than prior years.

Day 6: more practice and some bios

1. All briefs due. Are they in?

2. Team check ins:

• A Team: First draft due (google docs!)
• B Team: brainstorm ideas/start working on article. Team leader fill in chart
• C Team: work on article

3. Practice article review. Work in pairs and review leads and facts. Post both leads to this blog post comment section. Discuss.

4. As time permits, work on staff bios.

5. FRIDAY WE WILL MEET IN THE ANNEX!!

Day 5: writing practice

1. Team check-ins (5 mins)

• A Team: check-in about next article
• B Team: make sure everything is up on website
• C Team: drafts should be shared with themavoice@gmail.com

2. Editors edit! Staffers write.

• Review of the 5W+H -- all elements required for a strong lead (nut graf)
• Quote patterns (get someone else's voice in there no later than the third paragraph)
• Using the first rubric as your guide and the facts provided, please write two articles.

3. Share & compare: what's the best lead

Day 4: Computer Lab

1. Briefs: get them uploaded to the website.

2. Team check in: A Team (next articles), B Team (draft on google?), C Team (working on draft).

3. How do we email people?

4. How do we interview? In person!! Over the phone!!

5. What works well in an article? Citing sources, structure, etc

Day 3: Computer Lab

What's on the schedule today:

1. Group A: what do you have to hand in? Group B & C: what's going on?

2. Review article (compare with rubrics -- note # of sources). Keep in mind how you ask questions, how to get in touch with people (always identify that you're writing for The Voice, use proper grammar, and give a summary of the story and why that source is needed), and that all interviews happen in person or over the phone. NO FACEBOOK. NO EMAIL!
