Day 11: Briefs due, article checkin-ins and more

1. Are all briefs up and ready to go?
2. Graphic check-in. What's left to do on articles? Article 1 due
3. Cleaning up your Copy --> work through this course to brush up on some grammar essentials. Send me a course report when you are done.

Day 10: Article drafts due, check-ins and some editing practice

1. All articles should be updated and shared with gmail account. One-on-one review with Mary. Also check-in about briefs
2. Graphic ideas? What is each person bringing to the article in terms or photos or video?
3. While not checking in with Mary, please schedule interviews, look for sources, think about hyperlinks, etc.

Day 9: News Briefs due; work on profiles

1. All briefs should be uploaded before class. Henry edits!
2. Staffers work on profiles. Due at end of class, both in print to Eugenie and emailed to Mary.

Second draft of article due on Tuesday.

Day 8: uploading, checking-in & working on profiles

Review: How do you upload an article/brief? All drafts go to gmail account via google docs. Make sure you write briefs in google docs OR directly into a post. Submit for review when done and graphic is uploaded.

Check-in: how were other interviews? How is the progress? Any questions on briefs?

Write: Continue to work on your peer profile. Due at close of class period on Friday. Double spaced. Handed in to Eugenie.

Day 7: Article check-ins, interview recaps, and more!

1. Review of interviews. How do you know what's good information versus useless information? What can we learn from each other?
2. Class discussion: Checking in about articles and what interviews you need to get? Who are the experts? What groups need a voice?
3. Peer profiles (see handout). Interview and write. This is an in-class activity, so no need to complete today. Goal is to complete by Friday Sept 18. You will need to submit a graphic or photo with this piece.

1. Review of News Brief. Working in partners, share what's good and needs work. Review as class. What makes a news brief different than a fully fleshed out article?
2. Defining News Briefs for each idea. What are readers looking for? What's the length and format? Everyone needs a graphic or video.

1. Working in groups, what comments were made on your articles? How did your work compare to others? What big style things did you learn? How can you improve your work for the next time?

3. Working in partners, review the homework. What do you notice? What parts were done well? What parts were not done well.

4. Large group discussion.

5. Write another practice news piece from handout. 40 minutes to execute and print.
