Check out the articles written by your peers a few classes ago. Here's what you're looking for:

1. Strong lead with active verbs
2. Lead contains 5 Ws + H
3. Accuracy
4. Concision
5. Inverted pyramid
6. Proper quote formatting
7. No editorializing

Read through the entire packet of articles. Rank the articles from best to could-be-better. For each one list three strengths and three places for improvement. We'll discuss as a group.

▪                      Police called to Marin Academy after a planned student protest against the dress code turns violent.

▪                      Students staged a walk out at 12:00 pm

▪                      They began to destroy the bleachers at the soccer stadium

▪                      Five students were injured and taken to area hospitals.

3. NewsU: First Amendment for the High School Journalist. You will have to register with NewsU, and when you're done, you will have the option to send me a "course report". Please do so. Also, please post a comment on this blog with the three most important take-aways you got from the readings.

3. The Staff Bio
You've been waiting for this moment all of your life, and surely since you started this class. It's time to write about yourself, your accomplishments, and your awesomeness. Make yourself shine. Let your story be told. Now is the time to let other know what you think as you write a little bio about yourself (to be posted on The Voice website). A few reminders: this is public, this is part of the newspaper, this sets the tone for much of what we do. Along with a bio, one of the editors will be taking your photo!! Make sure you look good.

I might suggest you start by reading 3 staff bios from professional publications. Then read a few from our website. Then start to write your own. Once you've written your masterpiece, you will upload it to mavoice.org. It goes under STAFF BIOS. Don't put it in the story section as we'll never find it, it'll never get posted, and then you'll be sad. Real sad.
