Goal for staff: Make each day your masterpiece. You have to apply yourself each day to becoming a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be.

Goal for editors & advisor: Define success for those under your leadership as total commitment and effort to the team's welfare. Then show it yourself with your own effort and performance. Most of those you lead will do the same. Those who don't should be encouraged to look for a new team. — John Wooden

Edition 3: Editor Goals

Please post three goals you have for your section. Reflect on the last edition of last year, areas where you have the most to improve and areas where you're doing great work. These goals can be design related, deadline related, or anything else. BUT, make sure these are measurable, outcome goals.

General goals for everyone:
1. Visible difference in headline size (heads should be larger than 30 but no smaller than 30)
2. Photos anchored to headline (no floating graphics/photos)
3. Make sure exported PDF is high resolution (we had some issues with this last edition)
4. After you copy edit a page, make sure all elements/storylines are still on the page

1. Pica cushions around everything on the center spread

2. An interesting graphic to accompany the staff-ed, possibly an info-graphic.

3. Second attempt: Hand rule on the center-spread text.

1. Read everything (including cover!) before third day of layout

2. Well-written center spread

3. Strong graphic for the center spread

1: No Pixelated Photos! The Cover, the masthead, the cost of sports photos came out in low resolution. I am going to triple check links this edition and quadruple check and print PDFs.

2: Vary fonts within Centerspread. Generally we pick one font for the entire spread. I would like to try to pick multiple fonts that compliment each other.

3: Create a more organized "overheard" graphic that is recognizable and can be reused each issue.

1. The entire Features section this time is going to have a lot of graphics. I want to be certain that all of the links are intact and the page has a high resolution.

2. Make sure all citations are there and correct. With the recipes/traditions page it will be especially important to cite where they came from.

3. Copy edit thoroughly. I want to have no spelling mistakes, nor grammar and AP errors if possible.

1.) Organize my page in a new/unique way (attempt # 2, so I don't think I need to elaborate on this.

2.) Make sure the quality on all of my photos is good--I had some problems with that last time.

3.)

1. Make sure I have a pica cushion

2. Make sure graphic captions are as long as the graphic and not stating the obvious

3. Headlines are interesting and stretch across length of page without looked forced

1. MORE EDITING! After each edition comes out, I hit myself over the head, noting all of the spelling and punctuation errors throughout the A&E stories. Since I only have 1 page this issue, I think it's definitely possible to ensure that it has no spelling/punctuation errors.

2. Ensure that all photographs are linked and of high quality! Last edition I noticed that some of the pages had extremely low-res photos. I would really like to make sure this doesn't happen for the next issue, uploading only high-resolution files and making sure that they are linked.

3. Citations! I did a fairly good job of citing my sources last issue, and I want to make sure I keep it up.

2) Make sure the pages are graphically organized (1st page)

3) Make sure everything is up to date with AP style

Oops! Saw Marshall's right after I posted mine...

Marshall hit publish on mine by accident...Sorry.
Here they are:

1.) Organize the page in a new/unique way...(attempt number 2, so I don't think I really need to elaborate)

2.) Make sure the quality on all my pictures is high, because I had some problems with this last time.

3.) Make sure that my article, which has to be written late, is free from errors even though it is missing the usual cycle.
