1. The NFL: What you need to know —This is a priceless piece on the upcoming NFL season. It's not cutting edge news; it's all about the really important stuff. The tone is fabulous: a little cheeky yet quite knowledgeable. What do you think? Do you have to be an NFL follower to find the humor in the piece?
2. Ramadan means midnight practice — There were plenty of stories about Ramadan and its effects on some players' preseason schedules, but this piece focuses on a high school team in Michigan. A timely piece considering our center spread. What are your thoughts on the style and the content? Could you see an MA team ever making this kind of change for its players, regardless of the religion?
This is a place for the staff of the MA Voice to engage in on-line discussion about issues relating to and inspiring good writing, reading and journalism.
Goal for staff: Make each day your masterpiece. You have to apply yourself each day to becoming a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be.
Goal for editors & advisor: Define success for those under your leadership as total commitment and effort to the team's welfare. Then show it yourself with your own effort and performance. Most of those you lead will do the same. Those who don't should be encouraged to look for a new team. — John Wooden

"The NFL: What you need to know"
While I rarely ever watch football and don't follow it in the least, I still found this article pretty funny. Probably not for the same reason as all the NFL fans, though. I didn't get any of those little jokes that the author dropped about twice a sentence. The reason I found it funny is because out of all the things to talk about this author chose the things that people actually find interesting. There are two types of football fans: the ones to follow the sport technically and know every stat for every player and are all about the numbers, and there are the fans who simply enjoy following a football team and taking part in the culture of the NFL. This article is written to appeal to both types of fans, which is why it is so great. I found it hilarious that it's the beginning of the season, and instead of talking about numbers and games the article talked about hairstyles and 'drama' in the NFL. Also, it's very easy to read and understand, and being someone who never watches football even I understood a few of the jokes. I loved the part about the Jets being on HBO, and also the entire 'Tom Brady's Hair' section. Jason Gay did a great job of tying in many of the NFL's interesting controversies, while appealing to all types of fans. I really enjoyed the article and think its great, even though I felt like a complete outsider not getting any of the humor.
