Goal for staff: Make each day your masterpiece. You have to apply yourself each day to becoming a little better. By applying yourself to the task of becoming a little better each and every day over a period of time, you will become a lot better. Only then will you be able to approach being the best you can be.

Goal for editors & advisor: Define success for those under your leadership as total commitment and effort to the team's welfare. Then show it yourself with your own effort and performance. Most of those you lead will do the same. Those who don't should be encouraged to look for a new team. — John Wooden

relates to MA because the majority of the student population seems to spend a lot of time online which disastrously distracts us from the important and memorable things in life. Technology addiction --> common theme. How to curb it?

- The new deferred action program. The MA angle would be asking people what they think about the policy, and how it does effect some people in our community.

http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-205_162-57524285/half-of-great-barrer-reef-lost-in-past-3-decades/

MA's APES class is viewed as a class that people take if they are not interested in science. This is because many view the class as an easy A. It's disheartening that there are so many HUGE env. issues today, and while MA tries to educate the students on these issues, it is apparent that they are often disregarded entirely at MA.

http://www.slashgear.com/25-of-americans-own-a-tablet-close-race-between-ipad-and-android-02250036/

Probably 95% of MA students have a mac, iphone or ipad. It is interesting to see the upward trend in the US of people getting apple products, and how it compares to the population at MA.

There are so many people at MA that dislike both Obama and Romney. They are known around campus as really boring people.

San Rafael has been really hot recently, and it is interesting to see similar dramatic weather changes on a different planet.

http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/business/technology/fostering-tech-talent-in-schools-655689/

At MA, there are a surprising amount of students that are interested in comp sci., but there is only one class that teaches it (Number Theory). Unfortunately, this class is not always available, so students often go through MA without any formal education of computer programming, even if they are interested in it. There is a huge need for computer programmers in the world, but there is a huge lack of people that can fill this need. I think MA reflects this discrepancy, because we could be doing more to foster students with an interest in comp sci.

http://www.technapex.com/2012/10/will-technology-make-us-rethink-age-grouping-in-school/

There are a lot of MA students that don't view age as a limiting factor in what classes they take, or who they choose to hang out with.

News Articles and How They Relate to the MA Community

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Ahmadinejad-Netanyahu-s-UN-bomb-prop-childish-3912166.php

There a lot of presentations made at MA, directed at both students and faculty. With these presentations come graphical aids. But can a simple graphical aid be insulting, or just not helpful? While there has been nothing at the school so far that has provoked an outcry, some students may have found the graphics of an in-class presentation, as an insult to their intelligence.

News Articles and How They Relate to the MA Community (I’m not proud of this. Just sayin’)

http://www.sfgate.com/crime/article/Questions-remain-about-police-killing-3916684.php

Police Brutality towards a minor is an important issue in a number of cities. Everywhere disobedient teens are exposed to the bigger and bigger threat of committing a minor offense and ending up in the hospital.

http://www.sfgate.com/education/article/City-College-may-end-free-classes-perk-3917949.php

The city college is ending a perk which allowed students to avoid paying some “required” fees. Other schools may be soon to follow.

http://www.sfgate.com/news/article/Drought-worsens-in-some-key-Midwest-farming-states-3918788.php
With drought increasing in midwest states, more and more people may look locally for produce. This may affect the prices of the food bought by the Epicurean.

http://www.sfgate.com/nation/article/Cesar-Chavez-home-to-be-a-monument-3910969.php

Cesar Chavez has always been around the MA campus; he is often spoken about and his picture is up in a few classrooms. Making his home a monument will cement his importance in the workers’ movement and make him that much more of a figure at MA.

http://www.nytimes.com/2012/10/04/us/sioux-race-to-find-millions-to-buy-sacred-land-in-black-hills.html?_r=1&ref=us

The treaties broken by Americans long ago are, in some cases, being honored again. The Indians around California, such as the ones in Sonoma County, may hope to follow suit. This would prove to be a topic of discussion at MA because of the controversy that arises over the treaties not being honored in the first place.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/alfie-kohn/what-do-kids-really-learn_b_1936002.html?utm_hp_ref=education

Failure is something that many MA students fear. But experience with it might help out in the long run.
